My
long-term research goal is to establish an integrative research
program using a robust behavioral model to investigate the hormonal,
cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying agonistic intrasexual
social interactions.
For
my dissertation research, I will be investigating the effects
of intrasexual competition on the modulation of the electric
signal of male gymnotiform fish, Brachyhypopomus pinnicaudatus.
My
dissertation research questions are:
- How does social structure
affect the steroid hormone levels and the circadian rhythm
of the electric signal of male gymnotiform fish, Brachyhypopomus
pinnicaudatus?
- How does social structure
affect the outcome of staged dyadic male-male interactions?
- How do intrinsic properties
(such as body length, body weight, etc.) affect the outcome
of staged dyadic male-male interactions?
- Does the expression pattern
and level of the serotonin receptors 1A and 2A differ between
dominant and subordinate males?
